It’s just the style. Some people like big doors on there houses. It also creates a more light, open affect. The downside is, it may not be the safest type of door.

~As with everything else, it was the style of the time. The doors often incorporated stained glass or beveled glass windows which Victorians liked to showcase.

victorian houses were big and ostentanious.

they represented the owners wealth and power .

hence you find victorian rooms large , tall celing and having large front door.

The clothes styles for women had large ridged hoops under the skirts and the furniture was VERY over sized.

I would guess it would have something to do with air circulation during the warmer months with no air con.
