Get a coat and move to St. Paul MN. Great old houses there.

Good luck affording one, first off, especially in Cali. However, there are many Victorian homes across the country, many that need work and I’m sure you can get a decent price. I would check out other parts of the country as well before dropping as much cash as you will up front and yearly in taxes living in california.

Expect to pay big bucks. The sell for at least twice other homes in any market. Often it is 3 times.

You need to look in the older cities, they are often located in the first neighborhoods built. You may need to have a agent watch for you, they tend to sell very quickly, one reason they cost so much, they are desirable no matter what the economy is.

Be prepared for high maintenance costs. You can not hire the cheap guys, you have to hire only skilled tradesmen to retain the integrity of the building.
