Victorian literature – the Best English Literature 
Victorian Era was the time of new inventions and innovations, it was a time of scientific ideas and developments, it was the time when people lived in elegant houses and dressed gracefully. Victorian Era was also the period during which Great Britain became one of the most powerful, modern and wealthiest countries of the world.

Novels
During the reign of Queen Victoria many new writers came into the scene. One of the most famous amongst the lot and the one whom the whole world remembers till today was William Shakespeare. His plays and poems are still read by the people through out the world. Some other great writers of this period include Sir Walter Scott, Emily, Anne, and Charlotte Bronte, Anthony Trollope, George Eliot, Oscar Wilde and Charles Dickens.
The works of these writers depict the social conditions and satire that was prevalent in the society. Victorian writers created such excellent work that even grew popular in USA, France and Russia. Their work was very unique and created interest in the hearts of the readers immediately.
The authors tried to lift up experiences or characters from their own lives or from the conditions that were prevalent in the society. Charles Dickens and William Thackeray, both were very popular writers in of this age, both of them tried to depict the situations of the middle class in their novels. The novels also deal with the plight of the poor and oppressed.
The novels and poetry written during this era depicted a lot of different emotions like struggle, love, patience, romance, jealousy, intrigue, hard work, perseverance and luck. In Dickens age happy endings were very popular but after his death they became less common. Writers now tried to really show the reality through their characters and plots.
The style of writing novels of all the writers of this era was more or less similar. The books grew more realistic and often grimmer.
Poetry and Drama
Some of the great poets of this time were Alfred Lord Tennyson, James Planche, and Thomas William Robertson, George Bernard Shaw, Matthew Arnold, Gerard Manley Hopkins and many others. The poems had less romance and more passion and tenderness. Some poets also indulged in writing comic poems.
The drama field also gained much popularity during this era. Many performances were given and plays were run for a large variety of audiences.
So, in reality Victorian Era was truly a great period during which poets and novelists accomplished and gained new heights and experiences.
