victorian housesVictorian home decor? victorian houses

I just bought a house, and it is a Victorian. It has been modernized, but I would like to decorate it the way it might have been when it was built. The yard is generous, but bare. I’d also like to landscape it in a Victorian inspired manner as well.
What are some ideas for going about this? Is there any way I can research what the home would have looked like at the local library?

I am not sure about the research, but for the landscape I can suggest a brick patio with brick walkways. We bought a 1920′s Victorian last year and it has brick walkways and patios in the backyard, which are original…and it adds so much charm!

I own a Victorian and found several books at the local library pertaining to landscape, painting, and furniture that were very helpful.

Shop craigslist.org furntiure for sale near your closest city for antique victorian pieces. There are many books on victorian gardening also landscape designers that specialize in the period.

Red and brown walls with a chair rail would bring back it’s victorian look. Velvety furniture
