Question by Matt: Canada Victorian look than California look and more so Toronto? Is the brown brick , red brick , white siding , gray brick and other dark drab colors the Victorian look? Question by Steve Jones: Would you make more money selling a house with a big yard or a house and two extra lots? My house sits on a large parcel of land. Technically, it is three parcels. The house is centered in the middle of one parcel with a large side yard and large back yard. If I were to sell my home would I make more selling a house and two lots or selling it all together? I think we should split it up but my wife says we won’t be able to sell the house as easily if the lots next to it are for sale and/or sold with construction started. We live in a neighborhood with mainly Victorian style homes. Any building be done on these lots I want to sell would have to get approved by the historic society. Best answer: Answer by annazzz1966I agree with your wife. The house is more attractive...

Question by lastcaress21: Would a carpeted or hardwood staircase be more preferable? Currently my stairs are carpeted, but the cat has ruined the carpet, not to mention someone managed to have spilt bleach on the top landing of the hall. I’ve lifted the carpet in a few spots and it appears that the stairs are hardwood (the house is an old victorian). Would wooden refinished stairs be better than fully carpeted stairs or a combination of wood with a carpet runner be better? The problem I see with hardwood is that it would be more slippery and the carpet would be much quieter, but hardwood stairs are elegant looking. Best answer: Answer by Kimberly RWe have hardwood stairs and while they look nice, they are slippery. We have small children so the slippery part is a downside. The kids...

Question by limeoh: guys are more complicated? I honestly don’t understand what is going on in my relationship anymore, all i know is that i am hopelessly in love with my boyfriend who will do and say the cheesiest and most romantic things. BUT he has no common sense…. He’s a super nice guy and no one would ever say hes mean or anything. if anyone ever meets him they would want to be his friend. He will always go out of his way for you. however he may not be boyfriend material? or just immatures too easily pressured by his friends?? i dont get it. He would leave roses at my door step everyday when i came home from work, and never called me after twelve. He made me a photo album and drew both of us together. Last year when we were at his house planning to go to a party together,...

The Fleur de Lis is a time honored symbol in both art and architecture and a wonderful addition to any home. Fleur de Lis (French for Lily of the Flower) is a stylized lily or iris composed on three petals along a fluted or curved shaft. Although most typically associated with French architecture, art, and monarch symbols, the fleur de lis has actually appeared several cultures and societies (both Eastern and Western) over time.   The fleur de lis can be seen in a variety of applications – especially in architecture and design. Often used on the top of iron fences it served the dual purpose of making the fence more visually appealing while providing an extra defense if needed. Today the fleur de lis is popular in former French colonies in North America (such as Louisiana or Quebec) and...

When it comes to personal taste there is no right or wrong there is only what we as an individual find pleasing. When it comes to your home this is not always true. For instance, if you are planning a home renovation or home improvement project that involves decorative moulding there are rights and wrongs. There are interior moldings that can accent a room and tie your living space together and then there are moldings that can cause your house to seem disproportionate and ill-conceived. If you plan on reselling your house the latter is definitely a wrong decision. Crown moulding installation is a relatively simple home improvement that can ad value and enjoyment to any home. Just about anybody can hang trim, but it’s choosing the right style of decorative moulding that fits both...
