Question by karen m: Is there a plan somewhere of the location of the main drains under my house? I am renovating an old victorian terace which has solid floors to the dining room and kitchen at the rear of the house. They do not need lifting as they are dry and with lovely quarry tiles which I am keeping. However I was told that the main drains run under the rear of the house and if there was ever a problem the council would have the right to completely dig up the rear of the house. As I am putting a new kitchen in should I just pray that this never happens or is it worth finding our more? If so how do I locate a map of the underground drainage/sewers? Thanks Best answer: Answer by hamid sOfcourse there is a plan. Ask your landlord or developer of your building. Or at last you can go to manicipality...

Question by boo kitty: decorating a victorian house…? I’m in the process of purchasing my favorite house in the world, an 1860′s victorian house. My husband is going to do all the restoring and I’m doing all the decorating. I just wish that I had pictures of various Victorian or “country cottage” style rooms. Are there any good websites that showing pictures like this? I like antique designs, and I like either clean bright colors & styles (lilacs, baby blues, crystal, white wood) or dark victorian styles ( plums, burgundy, hunter green, cast iron, dark wood) so either would be great. I want to see all my options so I can get it together here. So what are some good websites to see ideas? Has anyone out there restored a Victorian house who can tell me...

Question by ??????? ? JON ? ???????: Could I build a brand new Second Empire or Victorian style house? The thing is, I really want a Victorian or Second Empire style house, but they’re so hard to find! And usually, for some reason, they’re abandoned or badly neglected. Are there companies that could build a new one for me? And would it cost a lot more than building a modern-style house? A Second Empire like this: or a Victorian like this: Best answer: Answer by Karen LYou can get anything you want built if you can pay for it. Yes, it probably would cost more to build an old style house. They had more detail, inside and out. One of the reasons people don’t build them much any more is that newer style houses are cheaper, or I’d have an older style house myself. You’d...

Question by Steve Jones: Would you make more money selling a house with a big yard or a house and two extra lots? My house sits on a large parcel of land. Technically, it is three parcels. The house is centered in the middle of one parcel with a large side yard and large back yard. If I were to sell my home would I make more selling a house and two lots or selling it all together? I think we should split it up but my wife says we won’t be able to sell the house as easily if the lots next to it are for sale and/or sold with construction started. We live in a neighborhood with mainly Victorian style homes. Any building be done on these lots I want to sell would have to get approved by the historic society. Best answer: Answer by annazzz1966I agree with your wife. The house is more attractive...
