Question by autumn033171: How do I find the history on an old Victorian House? I would like to find the history on this old house, because some strange things have been happening there. Best answer: Answer by Holly SYou could start by finding previous owners at your local City Hall or Court House. Give your answer to this question below! Another day of discoveries was in store. I started my explorations across the street from the Transit Centre at the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. This area contains some original buildings and many replicas of San Diegos Mexican-era architecture and is the most visited state park in California. Five original adobe buildings are part of this historical complex, and other historic buildings illustrate life in early San Diego. The Plaza del...

Question by J: Is this house Victorian or Edwardian? I’m talking about my grandma’s house. (I asked this question somewhere else and got 0 answers, so polls & surveys it the best for answers) I think it’s late Victorian but my mum thinks it’s Edwardian. Go to google earth and type in… 18 Hull Street, Richmond, Victoria. The exact result is her house and look at the outside using the street view . Oh, yes, she’s moved out of the house and it’s empty now because it’s very, very, very sadly getting knocked down in two weeks.. :(. Stalk her all you want, you won’t find her! Anyway, the front of the house is double fronted, door in the middle, two single sash windows to either side, a veranda, tin roof and decorative architraves around the...

Question by Alex N: Bat infestations in old Victorian house.? Someone who I know recently had a bat in his bedroom on the 2nd. floor. His bedroom, and another bedroom on the other side of the house, both have doors that open to the staircase leading to the attic. The house he lives in was built in the 1880′s, and needs some repair. What’s the best way he can cope with bat infestations? Is there some kind of repellent that will keep bats out, or does the home need to be fully fixed ( which I’m sure means quite an outlay of money.) before he can be secure from the bat problem. Is there way to completely seal the doors leading to the attic so that it’s impossible for bats to get in? Best answer: Answer by KiaI would make access to bat houses on my property and then procced...

Question by ??ig???? ?: Could I afford this house on a Nurses salary? http://www.houseplans.com/2301-square-feet-4-bedroom-2.5-bathroom-Country-house-plans-2-garage-(5291) I like older, victorian-like homes, with a modern touch. I want to have 3-4 kids, and be a neonatal nurse. I would make anywhere from 40,000 – 150,000 a year depending on experience and location. It will take atleast 6 years or more to complete every field of nursing school needed to get this specific nursing degree. I plan to get married, but don’t know how much the husband might make. Do you think that I could support 3 children, have this job, buy a house like this and be a photographer from home or from another location? I know this is just a ‘dream life’ but I’m trying to figure out if I...

Question by HTSCP: Buying a house out of state, where do I go to get the mortgage? My wife and I currently reside in the midwest and we are planning to move to the east coast in (hopefully) about 6 months. Where should I go for the mortgage? Do I need to get it from someone in the east cost area or someone in my current home town? We’ll be moving somewhere in the southern middle most part of the state. Its a small town. We’re currently looking at a few victorian homes that will need renovation so I am planning on getting an FHA 203K loan. Thank you for your time. Best answer: Answer by Caveat EmptorYou go to a lender that writes loans in that state – so ask. Doesn’t matter where the actual lender is located. Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments! Question by justaskme: Do you have tips on restoring an old house? I’m looking for tips on restoring a early 1800′s brick farm house. The old owners did all of the “gutting” & left it. I want to keep as much of the Victorian look as I can but there are somethings that I feel would be better if brought up to date. I know that the point of restoring is to keep as much of the old, old when ever you can but… 1.)I want to keep the old window frames but have the glass repaired? Or should I buy all new windows? Most of the old frames are broken & I can’t find anyone who makes antique replica frames. 2.) The house has all old plaster (horse hair junk) with little or no electric so the house has to be all rewired. Is it OK to take down the old plaster,...

Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments! Thisclip was taken during my little weekend escape to Owen Sound. My good friend Yolande and I hopped into the car early Saturday morning and took a nice country drive up to Georgian Bay. We drove through Collingwood, Craigleith and Thornbury before we made a stop in the historic town Meaford which has a nice waterfront and a decent main street with Victorian townhouses dating back to the 1880s. We continued our adventure to Owen Sound which is a beautiful town located right where the Sydenham River flows into Georgian...
