Question by BusyBee: How to make a mold from antique detailing? I have a gorgeous mirror but in the center of the crown there is a big chunk of the detailing (leaves) broken of. I can copy it from the other identical side. I was thinking to duplicate it by pouring some material (not sure what) over it. (making a mold) I would let it dry and than possible filling it in with a liquid that hardens and take it out so I can use that to fill in the missing piece. That way I can glue it in on the missing site. Anyone done anything like this like making antique detailed victorian pieces. I am not sure what to use to make the mold. It has to dry fast and bring out the intricate detailing. I was thinking to rub it with vaseline first so it will not stick to the original detailing. Any idea’s?...

Question by joey.edwards21: i am looking at changing the look of my studio apartment from a today look to a victorian look,? is it possible to change the door handle on the inside to a victorian door knob while keeping the other new door handle on the outside? can the inside of the door be changed to look like a door from the turn of the 20th Century while keeping the 21st century outside door? Best answer: Answer by meThere are fiberglass door panels you can glue on your interior door. You can also use trim work that you paint. As far as the knob..you would need to bring your door Assembly to a hardware shop and most likely purchase a knob set that utilizes the same size spindle on the interior. There are dummy handles too and levers that you can attach to give the impression. http://images.google.ca/images?q=dummy+door+handle&hl=en&rlz=1T4ADBR_enCA307CA310&um=1&sa=2&start=0 Add...

Question by shambala3dognight: How do you hang pictures from the trim of older houses? I live in a Victorian style home built in 1900. The walls are made of horsehair plaster and I know that those don’t take too well to nails… but that the trim has a lip designed for hanging pictures like in the olden days. However, with time this has become less and less, and I would like to hang a mirror above the fireplace nail-free and I have wire, but I’m not sure what other piece of hardware I would need in order to use this technique. Best answer: Answer by JessicaYou need to form a hook in one end of the wire, hang this over the lip of the trim, and attach the other end to the mirror, usually via a hole or loop on the back of the mirror or frame. Question by sam: Will signals from a wireless computer system penetrate solid house walls? I am thinking of using a wireless system for my desktop PC. But the nearest phone point is in another room of the house, and the bricks in my Victorian-era house are very hard. Would the signal from the phone point pass through one brick wall to operate my PC – or is there likely to be a problem? I would like to have some advice before cancelling the contract I have with the cable company I use for broadband, TV and landline phone services. Best answer: Answer by yap_jpIt may penetrate or it may not. If you use router with class N, the chance to penetrate the wall is higher since the signal is stronger and the range is also longer Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments! Located...

Question by Kat DeMuriel: Your opinion on a spooky dream from the past? I have had this dream two times. The last time was over 5 years ago, and it is still with me. The first time I dreamed it, I went to my old house in Nebraska, but it had been totally restored to a Victorian manor. I walk in and get this weird feeling, very uncomfortable. At the base of the stairs is a closed closet, and I can feel evil coming from it. I need to get up the stairs to the “orangerie”, a glass conservatory on the second level filled with plants and yes, orange trees. I know it is safe there, but I cannot overcome my fear to climb the stairs. The second time I dreamt it, (over 5 years ago) There was a ghost child, a little girl by the closet-crying for me. Her hands were outstretched and...

The Life Of The Victorian Family Bible Written From The Bibles Point Of View For me, things started going down hill from the moment my family purchased their Family Bible, that’s me. It was 1837, they bought me from a stationers, it was common for stationers of the time to supply the family Bible ready bound. In the cities, the atmosphere was heavy with dilute sulphuric acid, caused by the burning of fossil fuels to heat and light the Industrial Revolution. In the long term, the acid in the atmosphere was going to wreak havoc with my leather cover, and after we got home, being kept on a table in front of the window didn’t help either, the ultra violet light in daylight also had a tendency to degrade the materials used in the family Bible. I was quite the focus of attention when...
