Question by ??ig???? ?: Could I afford this house on a Nurses salary? http://www.houseplans.com/2301-square-feet-4-bedroom-2.5-bathroom-Country-house-plans-2-garage-(5291) I like older, victorian-like homes, with a modern touch. I want to have 3-4 kids, and be a neonatal nurse. I would make anywhere from 40,000 – 150,000 a year depending on experience and location. It will take atleast 6 years or more to complete every field of nursing school needed to get this specific nursing degree. I plan to get married, but don’t know how much the husband might make. Do you think that I could support 3 children, have this job, buy a house like this and be a photographer from home or from another location? I know this is just a ‘dream life’ but I’m trying to figure out if I...

Question by ??????? ? JON ? ???????: Could I build a brand new Second Empire or Victorian style house? The thing is, I really want a Victorian or Second Empire style house, but they’re so hard to find! And usually, for some reason, they’re abandoned or badly neglected. Are there companies that could build a new one for me? And would it cost a lot more than building a modern-style house? One of the reasons people don’t build them much any more is that newer style houses are cheaper, or I’d have an older style house myself. You’d...

My next-door neighbor (in an apartment building) is having his apartment renovated this week. Walls are being removed, installed, etc. Since yesterday morning, I’ve been getting terrible headaches and nausea. The first I would attribute to the noise alone- except that my boyfriend has been getting headaches since Monday, and he isn’t here during the day when they’re working. There’s a sort of fine dust in the air, but it’s not terribly noticeable. Our building was built in 1905 and the management company did some very on-the-cheap renovations to the building in 1987, so I’m pretty sure that none of the potentially hazardous Victorian building and painting materials (ie. asbestos and lead) were removed at that point. What chemicals could this be? Can...
