Question by Stanley T: pothos in a dark hallways… help with adding lights?
I am planning to grow two 10 foot tall tower with Pothos which will be four types of Pothos: Gold Pothos, Silver Pothos, Marble Pothos and Jade Pothos. They will be trained to grow on a pole covered with both Moss and mesh screens around the pole (which will be assembled before planting)

The locations are in the hallways on 1st floor and 3rd floor in a Victorian home. There is no sunlight. Currently we have all light fixtures with CFL 15w “daylight” (equals 60watts and at 800 lumen each.) There are 9 15w bulbs on 1st floor and on 3rd floor there is 3x 15 watts CFL, very bright which is 6500 Kelvin temperature (blueish light) each. They stay on 24/7 because the building is an small apartment building.

Will it be enough for pothos to grow in those light conditions.

Two times a week, I will be supply some light “plant grow” light bulb to enourage more photosynithesis for it to grow.

Please give some feedbacks, it’ll be great. I consider myself an expert.

thanks
I was thinking of replacing the CFL’s on 3rd floor to 27watts (equal 100watts) at 1680 lumen each. They will be as well are 27w “Daylight” CFLs’ at 6500 Kelvin temperature which is on blueish side which plants crave to grow. I found the 27w “Daylight” cfls at Home Depot and was wondering if it will be able to grow in those condition?

Any feedbacks or suggestions would be great.

Thanks again.

They need more light than that; I’d use a grow light at least 50% of the time. Without a grow light, they will grow extremely slowly.

Pothos need more light than what will be available in order to thrive. It might live but would be really leggy and not very attractive. If you really want a live plant, I would consider a cast iron plant instead. If you really like the look of pothos or a vining plant I would consider a really nice artificial plant. Many are so well made that you can’t tell the difference without close examination.
