I am trying to locate a person who can help me value some Antique Oil Lamps I inherited?
Question by Randolph Bender: I am trying to locate a person who can help me value some Antique Oil Lamps I inherited?
I have a number of turn of the century, Victorian oil lamps. They are very beautiful and I have been told they could be worth a lot. I need a person I can send pictures to and speak with on the phone as well. Thank you everyone for your help. Randy

Hello Randy,
I am an antique collector myself. I began collecting antique oil lamps about 2 years ago.
I found this great site last year and have called on this nice lady several times to help me assess the value of any lamp I might purchase. Her name is Amanda and she is a great resource.
You can send her a picture from your phone and call her right away and she will give you an estimate of the value. She will also point out what to look for to ensure authenticity. I will give you the name of the site and the exact web page on which I located her store.
This site has many other resources and is a little bit addicting for old oil lamp collectors.
Welcome to the world of antique oil lamps collecting.
I hope this helps you out.

Oil lamps are showcased in hundreds of black and white and color photographs throughout these pages, with greater emphasis on diversity, trimmings, and the probable placement in the home. Lighting fixtures such as hall, hanging, or bracket lamps reveal that Victorian homeowners had an astounding selection from which to choose. The many catalog illustrations and advertisements serve to date lamps and perhaps identify their manufacturer. You can check with and get an appraisal from either Christies or Sotherbys which are both auction houses. They are based in New York but they have branches in other parts of the country. Sometimes they can even give you an appraisal online or, with pictures, over the telephone. Both houses have web sites that you can use to get contact information.
Review by Jill Jacobsen for Oil Lamps 3 : Victorian Kerosene Lighting 1860-1900
Rating:
This is the third book by Catherine Thuro on the subject of kerosene oil lighting and lamps. This book is as informative and useful as were her other two books. As an avid collector of whale oil and Kerosene oil antique lamps and lighting, I feel her books are one of the best reference sources available. I highly recommend this book to anyone who embraces the passion of collecting antique lighting!
