victorian housesHow can I make my office space more private in a Victorian Home? victorian houses

I am in the first room of a Victorian home that is being used as office space. I am wide open to everyone who comes through the front door and my room does not get warm. Is there anthing I can do to make it look professional?

There are two choices that are available to you that are in keeping with the period of the home. The first is to install, or ask your landlord to install, pocket doors. According to the Wikipedia article below, pocket doors “were particularly common in Victorian homes to close off such areas as sitting rooms or dens.” The other option is to put up a movable folding screen, “upholstered in brocade or papered in a traditional or Oriental-motif design,” as discussed in the eHow article below. The screen could be positioned to block the view from the doorway. Hope you find this information helpful.

Sounds like you workspace is in the same room as the front door. If this is the case, you can buy or build a movable partition to shield the draft. If you are there to greet people, it needs to be lower. For privacy you could go up to 5′ high depending on the adjacent space and workspace location.
A temporary ‘L’ shaped partition wall can be built to match the trim and finishes of the room, although custom construction would be more expensive than an ‘off the shelf’ office cubicle.
You could also use folding screens for privacy.
