victorian housesDesigning a dark “Victorian” themed bedroom, any ideas? victorian houses

I already have a chandelier that I will be hanging and am planning to paint my walls a deep plum. I don’t want my bedroom gothic but be ‘over done’ in a classy way. I’m just looking for ideas/photos. Thanks

Oh this will be fun! Lets start with the largest focal point the bed.

Bed – Think texture satins brocades. Something solid like this in cream or the color shown. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/191-3951245-9698919?asin=B002KCYIG8&&ref=tgt_adv_XASD3208

Over it partially or totally put an old cotten lace table cloth (Thrift stores are wonderful resources) http://www.emsheart.com/images/T22205%206.jpg

Bed pillows…..Satin and linen Black Gold plum to match the walls and cream. (never white)

    Sheets cream lace edged. http://s7d3.scene7.com/is/image/EthanAllenGlobal/03-2347SH?printRes=300&width=470&height=470

A folding screen a must. http://katysullivandesigns.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/dragonette-screen.jpg You can make one your self and insert cloth (more lace) or put mirror tiles on it. Tossed over the screen a very fringy shawl. http://www.hotfrog.com.au/Uploads/PressReleases/Night-Bird-Tie-Dyed-Rose-Lace-Shawl-with-Rose-Tassels-47008_image.jpg

Old picture frames sprayed gold. http://static-p4.fotolia.com/jpg/00/06/12/47/400_F_6124729_911sByZfQdmoKaa1u6aUlIH3jV7tvw6v.jpg Again the thrift shops are your friends.

If your bed is not a 4 poster. Buy columns from the home reno stores. Another source is the building salvage stores. These poles (you can use 2 or 4) can be decorated with vines and small lights. If these are out of your buget wood closet poles will do wind a rope up it in a sprial and lay plaster on it then pull off the rope to give it texture then paint. Or paint and staple Silk flower garland to it. The poles can be screwed to your bed frame or attached with wire ties. You can drape fabric between the poles.

An old steamer trunk or hope chest at the foot of the bed.

    A vanity http://www.greatfindsfurniture.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/dsc02291.jpg

A fussy little lamp for the vanity http://www.elizajaneantiques.com.au/pix/48242a.jpg an old silver brush set http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t163/coopsgirl_30/IMG_4899.jpg Ostrich feathers over the vanity.

All of these things can be found very inexpensivly you need to go to the used furniture stores and thrift shops and salvage shops. For instance the lamp above is selling for 1800$ I found one for 5$. Look for a stained glass lamp too and consider http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Q3LZYG?ie=UTF8&tag=home-decor-hub-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000Q3LZYG for the window with scarfed window coverings.

As long as you have your colors set you just need to use a bit of imagination and shop …..When thinking victorian there are several styles the purple walls themselves lend toward a upscale brothel look dont be afraid to play with it.
