Question by ??ig???? ?: Could I afford this house on a Nurses salary?

I like older, victorian-like homes, with a modern touch. I want to have 3-4 kids, and be a neonatal nurse. I would make anywhere from 40,000 – 150,000 a year depending on experience and location. It will take atleast 6 years or more to complete every field of nursing school needed to get this specific nursing degree. I plan to get married, but don’t know how much the husband might make. Do you think that I could support 3 children, have this job, buy a house like this and be a photographer from home or from another location? I know this is just a ‘dream life’ but I’m trying to figure out if I can do this? And if you are a nurse, especially neonatal, please give me some advice on some classes to take and how many years of schooling it might take out of highschool? Thanks :)

The house looked about perfect. 150k annually would buy this house for sure. Great thing about being a nurse is you might also meet a rich doctor. Here was some info from wikipedia, I’m not sure of the credibility

The entry-level requirements to become a neonatal nurse are different for each location. Most hospitals require that the nurse is a graduate of an accredited RN (Registered Nurse) program and also from an accredited school of nursing with a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) or MSN (Masters of Science in Nursing).[4] Many require a three year minimum of clinical experience in a hospital setting. It is required specifically for neonatal nurses that he or she has certification as a Neonatal Resuscitation Provider and/or certification in either Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. The NICU, for instance, requires a certification. For all of these qualifications, there must be a CNS (Clinical Nurse Specialist) or RN certification of the state in which the nurse wishes to work. Some hospitals insist that the nurse has shown clinical competence and leadership skills. The most important qualifications include the ability to administer medications, other knowledge needed for patient care, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and math calculations, as well as demonstrating knowledge of the equipment and its use.

Good luck with it all, anything is possible.

What do you think? Answer below!

The old Mtn. Park property ,at the base of Mount Tom in Holyoke, is being developed by Eric Suher. No details of his plans have been made available to the media, but this summer a concert was hosted on the largely undeveloped site. Work to clear the property was stopped in November 2008 after objections were raised due to concerns for wetlands and what is seen as a pristine open space. The work involved removing tree lines at the sides of access roads to the property. This opened the old Mtn. Park ruins to plain view. Mtn. Park was an overgrown, rubble strewn tangle. This video documents the extensive work at clearing the land of debris and underbrush. The work also uncovered the old well and Water Pump house that was used for the Hotel at the summit of Mount Tom. Recently the old pavillion on the site has been repaired and the area improved to host an open-air concert, and it is generally believed Eric Suher plans construction of an open-air entertainment venue on this property.

Part of it will depend on where the house is built, as your final cost will have to include land and construction costs, both of which vary by location. For example that house might cost about $280,000 to build in eastern SC and more in say Montgomery County, Maryland. Assuming about 40K for land, you would be talking over $300K, for which you would need about a $125K salary. It might be much cheaper in other parts of the country.

Also, don’t expect to make anywhere near $150K just starting as a neonatal nurse, as the average salary for a neonatal nurse with less than 1 year experience is about $45,000. Obviously, as you gain experience, that will go up (and of course, if you can get some overtime, that would help).
