Question by phillliam: Bathroom Flooring for folk-victorian style home…?
I am wondering about opinions and expert knowledge of what kind of flooring might be appropriate to lay in a half bathroom I am renovating in my 1892 Folk/Victorian style home?
I want it to go with the style of home, so obviously no laminate or vinyl. Just looking for ideas.
btw, the flooring outside of the bathroom, ie: living room/dining room, will be dark hardwood.
Thanks for any input
oops, yeah, I didnt think about back then there weren’t any bathrooms. Perhaps thats why my 2,200 sq ft house only has one bathroom. I’m adding 2, the one in question is a half bath.

they did not have bathrooms in the home back then so i would go with the tile they had in the 1930 the small round tiles i forgot what it is called maybe someone on here knows it is beatiful it is black and white small round pieces you might know what i am talking about that’s probably what they had in there in the 1930s.

  • Cleanses & Exfoliates – Gentle cleansing and exfoliation – Scented mild clean soap smell
  • Great for Oily Skin – Bentonite deep cleans and soaks up excess oil. Great for acne
  • Cold cured – Not ‘cooked’ like commercial soaps – Handmade in small batches for superior quality

This soap contains herbs, essential oils and calcium bentonite clay, all renowned for their powerful skin restorative, exfoliation, detoxification and anti-aging effects. The soaps

are hand made in small batches and are cold cured, not cooked. Each bar contains fine milled calcium bentonite clay, the finest olive, palm and coconut oils, herbs, pure essential

oils, and natural sea salt. Unlike most commercially produced soaps, each handmade soap bar retains its glycerin. Most commercial soap companies add less “skin friendly” chemicals

to their soap. The bentonite clay in our soap bars helps to deep cleanse and exfoliate your skin, leaving it feeling smoother, cleaner, and looking more vibrant. Each bar is hand

cut, and is approximately 4.5 ounces.

About Bentonite: Calcium Bentonite Clay (sometimes called “Montmorillionite”) were formed by volcanic activity, and are naturally rich in virtually all trace elements and minerals

necessary for optimum health. Bentonite is often used in natural skin care like clay masks, lotions, baths, and soaps. Many folks also take bentonite internally for it’s powerful

detoxification properties and highly absorbable trace mineral content. It is also commonly used as an all natural trace mineral fertilizer.

Ingredients: Olive oil, palm oil, coconut oil, water, herbs, essential oils, sea salt, calcium bentonite clay.

1″ hexagon white with black dots or if you want to pay a lot more but get a great look, go with Antiqued French Limestone in a small Versai pattern.

From your explanation i would imagine that you have wooden flooring, if so , carry out a detailed examination to find out if the boards are in good condition.
In the past I have discovered that the boards around the toilet area frequently have rot caused by urine
If you have damaged boards, replace with good boards taken from somewhere in the house that is not too important.
Have the boards sanded professionally, and coated professionally, very often the same people will do both.
A beautiful varnished old floor looks great with the old nails showing, and a scatter rug will enhance the appeatrance.
We had our upper floor done this way , and it created a “wow” factor
I had difficulty finding old nails, but I eventually sourced a supply.
When removing old nails draw them out the back with vice-grips, and they will not damage the surface.
If you really want more information email me, I am 78 and retired, so have all the time in the World.

I was looking at the new glass tiles and think you can do an old style floor using a modern tile. Lay it out in traditional pattern. Check out http://WWW.Dreamflipper.com to see some of the great new floor tiles in glass. Good luck!
